Venerable country-rocking machine Drive-By Truckers do not know how to stop making heartbreaking and/or life-affirming songs about the South, the undeniable myth of rock'n'roll, and just trying to make it in this world without completely breaking down. Their tenth LP, The Big To-Do, is due March 16 on new label ATO (you know, the label that' was co-founded by Dave Matthews).

Pavement's headline-news 2010 reunion tour already includes a few stops at big festivals: Sasquatch!, Primavera, their own ATP throwdown. And now we can report that Pavement will also play the gigantic Danish festival Roskilde, which will go down July 1-4. Not too many other bands have been announced for Roskilde, but we do know that Pavement will play alongside Muse and NOFX, which should be pretty weird.

The Noise Pop Festival, which takes over venues around San Francisco, tends more toward pop than noise. Next year's festival is no different. The 18th Noise Pop fest, which which goes down February 23 - March 1, will feature plenty of all-stars. Among the bands participating: the Magnetic Fields, Atlas Sound, Rogue Wave, Four Tet, the Soundtrack of Our Lives, Mark Kozelek, John Vanderslice, Foreign Born, Zee Avi, the Limousines, and We Were Promised Jetpacks.

It had to happen. As winter turns to spring, two of the finest current practitioners of swagger-drenched, ear-bleeding noise-pop-- the sort of thing that used to see heavy rotation on "120 Minutes"-- will cross North America America together. London's the Big Pink and New York's A Place to Bury Strangers like their guitars dangerously loud, their drums mechanistic, and their hair elaborately messy, so this pairing just makes sense. I'm betting the Jesus and Mary Chain's Automatic will stay on repeat in the tour bus.
The tour will kick off March 10 in San Francisco. Before it starts, both bands will tour Europe and Australia, but not together. We've got everyone's dates below. Also, today, via Mute, A Place to Bury Strangers release the single for "Keep Slipping Away", from their latest album, Exploding Head. It features remixes from Richard Fearless, Maps, and more.
