MuseAmp: What are you currently working on right now? Sneak-E Pete: I host a show on Samurai.FM called Sick Moves with another SF producer/dj named Anthony Mansfield. We throw a monthly event with the same name to feature exclusive Bay Area appearances by ground-breaking artists such as Pete Herbert, Roberto Rodriguez from Finland, and we're stoked to host DFA record's Dj Kaos from Berlin in December. Anthony and I also have a bunch of unreleased music in the shop right now, and recently remixed Danny Massure's "Skanky". I also run an independent record label called Blunted Funk, and helped our band, The Shift, promote their 2nd full-length album this year. I'm always scouting for new music and remixers for the label. I'm also working on a few remixes for my label, and a few original collaborations with an instrumentalist from Brooklyn named Mike DeVellis. He plays about ten instruments, so he's a lot of fun in the studio, and we recently dropped a funky remix for the Pig Balls label from Sweden. MuseAmp: What are you spinning? Favorite artists? Sneak-E Pete: I play a few styles depending on the party, and yes, I still buy vinyl. I buy all kinds of funk, hiphop, disco and electronic but do get passed newer material via digital files. Some of the artists I've been into this year: Dam Funk on Stones Throw, Pure P on GAMM, Greg Wilson's "Oh Snap" remix, Mark E, anything by ill.Gates, Spoonbill's debut album, The Emperor Machine and Arcadion both from DC Recs, Kraddy, Featurecast, Luke Vibert's "We Hear You" album, Mr. Scruff's Ninja Tuna label, and two breaks labels called Good Grove Recs and Aniligital Music. MuseAmp: Any more live DJ shows planned in the near future? Sneak-E Pete: Our Sick Moves party is December 5th at the Triple Crown in SF. I'm hosting a new party with a focus on glitch, dubstep and breaks at Mars Bar the second Friday of every month; in December we have a live performance by an artist named LUX, as well as Mancub from the SpaceCowboys crew. I'm also a resident every fourth Saturday of the month at an art lounge in the NOPA district called Madrone Lounge for a party called Junk Food Love. MuseAmp: Current favorite audio production plugin? Do you use it live? Sneak-E Pete: Not a huge VST guy, as I have been trying to focus on Logic Audio primarily. We do use some Universal Audio mastering plugin's though, and a wicked mini-moog app by Arturia on a recent project. MuseAmp: What is your home studio setup like? Sneak-E Pete: MacbookPro, Logic 7, Korg microKontrol, Abelton Live, Marantz receiver, B&W monitors, Technics SL1200's, Pioneer DJM600 + ortofons, Edirol digital recorder. MuseAmp: Do you see Indie electronic releases using more unconventional and online methods to release new material? Sneak-E Pete: I've seen a ton of social network style promotional tools recently, but not one in particular does everything we need. I don't tweet, but I do think the new social app's and widgets out there are really helping the smaller independent labels get the word out. It's also great that there are a bunch of free ways to send music to people across the world. We also had great success using Eighth Dimension's new promotional service which services radio DJ's worldwide for a new album by our band, The Shift. I also like the new FatDrop music service, and I also use YouSendIt and Dropbox for the label. Bio: Born in Florida in the late 70's, Sneak-E Pete was raised listening to the sounds of disco and freestyle as he grew up. As a teenager he began collecting funk, hiphop, and breakbeat records, and eventually decided to attend college in upstate New York. He soon began DJing, and producing memorable underground raves and club events in the town of Ithaca. His sound was a mix of funky and electro breakbeats, performing regularly all over the East Coast. He was also introduced to Mike DeVellis, and began performing live DJ sets alongside Mike's saxophone. Pete soon moved to Brooklyn, NY and teamed up with Scottie B to form Blunted Funk Recordings. He produced a series of weekly and monthly events in NYC, most notably a three year residency at the infamous Halcyon lounge to host a weekly show on Groovetech.com. After many trips out West, he decided it was time to bring the Blunted Funk sound to San Francisco. Currently, Sneak-E Pete hosts a few monthly events in San Francisco, and has synched up with long-time friend Anthony Mansfield to host 'Sick Moves' on Samurai.FM. He's also been spending more time in the studio, creating remixes and original music for Blunted Funk. Pete teamed up with Anthony Mansfield to remix Quincy Jointz "Lazy" for Aniligital Music in '08 and recently signed a tune to the Pig Balls label in Sweden.
